How is going to the moon or Mars helping humanity? It doesn't, and no one is going anywhere.
No one is going extinct. Would it be easier to live on earth after a cataclysm or Mars? Obviously if you can't live on earth after a cataclysm you can't live on Mars. If the earth goes we all go. The moon or Mars aren't self sustainable, you would always need cargo from earth to survive. Life isn't a science fiction movie. Take things seriously
Chances of a comet hitting Earth are incredibly low, but never zero, if it would happen, humanity would go extinct. Colonizing other planets/moon is the only way we could survive
