  • Nearly 41 and she still have the fight spirit! Respect!

    • @Paul Johnson this aged well 😬

    • @MajestyTD I disagree, they're only done when they retire, once they keep playing, there's always a chance!

    • @Paul Johnson no players just want to win, they want to win titles and grand slam, but Roger or Serena can't win those anymore... They both are done....

    • So Roger is 41 too, both can still keep winning.

  • Even before the match started, the feeling must have been different for both Serena herself and the crowd because this is the first match she is playing after the announcement. She has been in a confused state for the last few years, not knowing whether to retire or to continue competing. Finally she has come to terms. I think she was probably glad she lost this match. Had she won this, she might have gone back to the confused state again.

    • @Mason Finley Yes, she loves tennis but she did not figure out a gracious exit from this activity.

    • @Marie Yea Patrick is the worst coach and I can see him leaving Halep once it seems evident that Halep has a very serious injury or if he believes Halep won’t ever win a slam. What Patrick did to Serena is complete garbage. I hope Serena proves Patrick wrong.

    • @smarramba86 well said.....

    • @Marie she gives me the impression of being dangerous if she lost some weight, her power is still remarkable. But comprehensibly after a life of sacrifices as professional tennis player and many trophies won she doesn’t have that will of fighting into her, otherwise she’d already be slimmer. I hope she’ll retire without regrets, and since she’s already into the olympus of tennis it shouldn’t be so hard for her. 😁

    • I disagree about her being “confused”. She loves tennis. However, everything happens for a reason. I agree with you there.

  • That respectful thanking the crowd Belinda gave... very quick - knowing the crowd were feeling sad for Serena

    • @Jacob Lousche *in respect to

    • *the crowd was

    • Yes, Belinda is a total class act.

    • Awesome comment. Its true and very nice of Bencic to shorten her celebration in respect of Serena

  • Bernic played beautifully considering how much the crowd was routing for Serena. And knowing it was one of Serena’s final tournaments.

    • Oh well, the ox stumbled!

    • @Peter Phil Stacey That’s obvious that she doesn’t move like she used to. After her whole life playing I’m sure it’s not easy to leave it behind whether she wants attention or not.

    • @Nancy Gonzalez she just wants attn at us open...can't move anymore

    • This wasn’t even a competitive match. Serena is only playing a few tournaments to have a few more times out on the court before she leaves the game completely. She picked up a racket about a month ago after over a year out.

  • Hats off to Serena for competing this long. I really like to watch Bencic play when she is on.

    • Yes, Bencic is a good player. This match for sure shows that Serena cannot dominate a match like she used to do in the past. To win this match she should have fought hard but she's probably unable to do that either. For those who don't know her, Bencic is a really good player and a loss against her is not tragic.

  • Ultimately, the decision to become a wife and mother cost her the record. No way she wouldn't have passed 24 if she didn't take that time out for childbirth. After all that, she was in more final matches than everyone else for the next two years of grand slams. Legend. Life is more than just tennis, so no regrets

    • @Eddie Ingallsthat's ridiculous. No matter what Serena does people like you will find a way to make her the villain

    • @Stefano Del Stef Bahahaha. Oh here we go with that BS again. Cry.

    • The hard truth is she choked badly when it really mattered, got nasty and tried every trick in the book to rattle her opponents. She gave herself almost 6 years to match (1 win) and beat Court's record (2) but blew it every time - that is not the mark of a true champion. She is again trying to rattle her opponents by announcing her retirement before the US Open. This will mean the usual best courts and times for her, midnight games on outer courts for the top seed opponents and, what she has done this most for, a truly mad, fanatical and partisan home crowd - again in the hope it rattles her opponent.

  • Serena still has that raw power, but she’s lost some foot speed.

    • @Floria Abney im not saying it takes away from her legacy, but if you cant do something well then for gods sake dont do it. Nobody appreciates her being out there looking out of shape and getting blown out.

    • @Hubster I wish that she would go out on a winning note but at the same time, I'm not seeing it as you are. I believe that mentally she has already moved on and is basically just showing up out of obligation. When you look at someone of Serena's caliber, she's already made history in tennis and even if she loses her final matches, it takes absolutely nothing away from that legacy and what she means to tennis and has done for the entire sport. There's no one on the circuit that generates the level of excitement that she does and I think that women's tennis is going to be very lackluster without her. Not to mention that she is involved in major business ventures off the court and is winning in a whole nother arena and is focused on expanding her family.😇

    • @Floria Abney shes doin it again in Cincinnati, its turning into an embarrassing farewell tour.

    • @Floria Abney could be.

  • I did not expect to cry so much watching her first goodbye. I wish she was able to leave off closer to the top of her game. I think she could get back to a really competitive level, but I doubt she can make it happen in 1 summer. I’m gonna watch every match till she’s gone tho… 🥲

  • I can see the pain and sorrow through Serena's eyes but she showed the world how sportsmanship should be :) Hope she will win the last grand slam in her career path.

  • Congratulations to Belinda , You played a magnificent game , wish you all the best. Belinda has a great style and zeal to beat many opponents.

    • What no congratulations to Legend Icon Serena for what she's done for the sport Lmfgao!!!

  • I’m glad to see more light-hearted moments from Serena at the press conferences lately. I think she’ll make a good transition out of playing in the tournaments

  • While it's always a historical treat to still be watching Serena compete, it is sad to see how time halts for no one. Not even for the greatest ever. March on Serena till you say enough. We love you!

    • Yup. Time is the most powerful force. Time and tide wait for none. Opponents can be defeated, but not time.

  • Love Serena, thanks for all the tennis enjoyment--- Bencic is a class act-- just imagine what might have been in her mind the whole time. 🎾👌

    • @althea graham To a 40-year-old?

    • @Carrera U but.... if you're gonna lose, it should be to Serena, no? 🙂

    • Bencic was probably afraid to lose that match, what an embarrassment that would have been for her.

  • Serena is still competitive, but more foot speed is necessary to have an edge with top players.

  • Nearly 41 and she still have the fight spirit! Respect!

  • i was there to see it live, the crowd had Serenas back before and after the loss, she got emotional in the interview, one of the GOATS

  • Loved it! Thank you Belinda. You played excellent.

  • Great job Belinda!

    • Who cares about Belinda she has many more years to win a grandslam it's Serena's last time give her some respect for what she's accomplished in tennis 🎾 and in sports in general she's the GOAT

    • @alauri83 Hmmm...I wonder why? Think about it.

    • What no congratulations to serena for what she's done for Tennis Lmfgao

    • I love how she hugged Serena at the end. I didn’t realize Serena is almost old enough to be Belinda’s mother, lol! She sure plays well for a 40yo!

  • Well done Bencic, so happy for you.

  • Congrats Belinda on the WINS

    • @bigray1999 he is going sand fighting with everyone in the comment to respect sareena

    • @bigray1999 it's not about Belinda it's about Serena it's her retirement you guys are not showing any respect for her and what she's done for tennis Belinda has many more years to win a slam!!

    • He didn't disrespect Serena. He congratulated her opponent.

    • LoL....again no respect for Serena you guys are something else lol...

  • Well done Serena! You may not have won this your next game before you retire, but you've won our hearts. We love you and you family. Have a great life and continue to do the good you've been doing all your life. Happy tennis retirement 🤗.

  • This was a good match and very winnable match for Serena. Belinda just served extremely well today and broke Serena when she needed to.

  • This just goes to show it's very hard coming back from an injury, especially during the twilight of your career. It takes all your time and energy to dedicate to the sport and I admire those with family that can do it. If Serena wants to try to make a comeback, then I wish her the best of luck. Just know it's not easy.

    • U r right. Something happened between last year and this year... She lost the weight last year she made the Australian Open semifinals.... This year she's moving real slow and she got rid of Patrick way too late..... Oh well, she's not a quitter so it has to be she don't see any other way anymore 😥

  • Congrats Bencic!! Wonderful tennis 👍🏻👍🏻👌💥

    • Belinda composed and mature. She's like that wine, y'know, that wine that improves with age.

  • Serena 4 darn chances to equal MC or possibly outmatch her, she missed it sadly. Her emotions got the best of her. I love her, unfortunately that #24 will always be a hovering cloud for her. I'm sad, but I'm incredibly proud of her.

  • Why the crowd is always with the losers? Go Belinda!

  • Belinda composed and mature. She's like that wine, y'know, that wine that improves with age. ❤❤

    • @alauri83 She's nicer than you!

    • @David Fallaw Did that offend you?

    • @conillet What's your point?

  • Спасибо за видео! Очень жаль, что Serena хочет закончить свою карьеру. 🌹

  • Serena’s innate firepower and shot making just needs to be matched with better fitness. I feel that despite her age, she can still go deep in tournaments if she just worked on her fitness. Easier said than done.

  • Exactly what I thought would happen. Good job Belinda. I thank you for this one!

  • Its time to go for Serena, and she does pretty soon. But amazing how she still plays with 40 years old, and being a mom.

    • Serena still did quite well considering Muguruza was only able to win 4 games from Bencic today.

    • What has being a mom have to do with anything? Court and Clijsters won multiple slams as moms.

  • Its time to go for Serena, and she does pretty soon. But amazing how she still plays with 40 years old, and being a mom.

  • Serena hasn't been able to run balls down for years, she can only lumber to them.

  • Good job Serena. I knew it would be a tough match for Serena. Playing a top player in too form is no small feat.

  • The footwork is the most obvious difference between the Serena of today and vintage Serena. Definitely less fleet of foot which makes her game look much more sloppy as well. She seems to arm everything now rather than having her body in the right position for all of her strokes. Her natural/effortless power is also gone. She still has the power but it’s not the fluid power she used to be able to unleash. I mean, I get it. At 40 years old, all that just goes away…

  • i was there to see it live, the crowd had Serenas back before and after the loss, she got emotional in the interview, one of the GOATS

    • @CIU MEDIA With a career winning percentage of less than 85 %? With only 73 of 238 tournaments won?? Don‘t be silly.

    • THEE GOAT

  • Well done Serena! You may not have won this your next game before you retire, but you've won our hearts. We love you and you family. Have a great life and continue to do the good you've been doing all your life. Happy tennis retirement 🤗. ❤️🐱

  • Serena is still competitive, but more foot speed is necessary to have an edge with top players.

  • When Serena was starting out, she could run and had defense. She didn't rely on brute strength. As the years past on, she started to rely on her girth and power. She simply imposed her will the WTA. It took a generation but the WTA has caught up to her around five years ago. Every women hits with power and they are not intimidated by her. And most importantly, they can run the court like Serena did when she was young. It's like her past is finally catching up with her. Life is cruel when you are haunted by your past. And it's pretty sad when you can only win one match and you're ranking is 407 in your farewell year.

  • Congratulations🥳 B² for W✅. Happy Retirement to the 1 and only 21st Century Women's Tennis G.O.A.T. Serena Williams🐐🎾🌎. For 2022 Season, first it was Ashley Barty's shocking retirement and now it's Serena Williams. Biggest news of WTA for Season 2022 so far.

    • The 21st century is not „all time“.

  • Bravo Bencic 👏👏👏👏

  • In a month S could loose 20 lbs if she wanted to, extra weight = less foot speed. But she also said she wants another child. I agree with the comment that S has no regrets. And S shouldn't. The best serve ever, one of the most penetrating ground games and the grittiest champion ever. Brava Queen Serena! See her at the OPEN,

    • She is already pregnant i think

    • Lose in the first Round

  • S. Williams has been the best tennis player in the last 15 years. It is unrivaled. I am glad that her path is going to Polish girl Iga Świątek.

    • Who just lost to some Brazilian chick.

  • Belinda she is so graceful and well prepared compared to the SUW, unfortunately we will have to see her/him again at the US Open. That sucks...

  • I do not get it. Why is S. Williams still playing? I do not get it. It is painful to watch her now, who used to be such a big hitter at her prime time but is now almost defenseless... So sad to see...

  • And again, and again, and again, over and over. How can Serena Williams keep losing to such mediocre Tennis players? Why? She's done! The older you get the more difficult for your body to recover. Tendons, muscles, ligaments lose elasticity, cartlilage wears away, heart and lung capacity diminishes, disease (COVID-19) ACCELERATES this decline. We're all Temporary.

  • Thank you Serena!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

  • Good match. Bencic was not holding back.

  • Thank you, Serena, YOUR SIMPLY THE BEST! Tennis will never be the same you and Venus have bought so much to the game! You upset the tennis world I'll miss your outfits! God Bless You!

    • They certainly upset the tennis World! I read where they rallied for female players to be paid more than they were since they had the same crowd as the men. It's good that Serena is retiring now to focus on her family and her health. When some women have children they gain weight which cannot be lost easily. Now is a new season for her. She's retiring from tennis but moving to other avenues. THANK YOU SERENA!!

    • Those xxl outfits 😆🐘

  • Honestly I think it's a huge credit to Serena and testament to how great she was that she can still win any points at all. She's simply not close to being in professional tennis shape anymore.

    • She literally got broken once in the second set. She is a pro tennis player, but her mother weight and body has just worn off. She just needs time for the US Open

    • that's true. I can also still ride a bicycle even though I'm 40. give me some credit too.

  • Well done Bencic! I know Serena was playing on to try to equal Margaret Courts slam wins but it was not meant to be.

    • @Peaches Baity Yeah I knew that when I made the comment. The way she is playing she'll be lucky to get to the quarters of the US let alone win it, so she will still end up 1 short of her reason for sticking around til she was 40.

    • @Peaches Baity Yeah I knew that when I made the comment. The way she is playing now there is no chance she will even make the semis let alone win it so she will finish her career 1 short of the slam record holder.

    • This isn't a slam, she's only playing this to get ready for the US Open.

  • Bencic looks super fit, like best of her life.

  • Good win Belinda. Thank you Serena. The most loved and hated figure in women’s tennis

    • The most hated one was Hingis.

  • i have to say. its because bencic' serve has improved massively.

  • If only Serena would drop another 20lbs her movement and timing would improve dramatically 💪🏿

  • Ha ganado Belinda

  • You all know or maybe not that they started counting MG ''24'' slams once Serena passed Steffy's record right? M.Cort has 11 slams before the Open Era where most of the tennis players were not even traveling to Australia in order to compete! It is really funny when STeffy held the record no one counted those 24 of MC and once that record was broken they started counting them!?! Double Standards ? Serena is THE GOAT period! There is no one else that has changed the game so much the way she and Venus did it!And she dominated the game rough 3 different generations! If she could move as fast as before she will be still kicking their asses! Love you SERENA!!! I will miss you so f....g much!!!

    • @Raelene Keegan Court is on record saying that Steffi is the GOAT.

    • Nope MC is the GOAT. She was the first woman in the Open era to win the singles Grand Slam ( not the so called Serena Slam). Her Open era singles winning percentage is just over 91% and her Grand Slam winning % in the Open era is just under 92% both of which are unparalleled. She is also 1 of only 3 players in the history of tennis to have won the Grand Slam Boxed Set and she did it twice. Once as an amateur and once as a professional. We can’t forget that while she was doing this she also gave birth to 2 children. Lastly MC only played in the open era for 9 years unlike 20 plus years that Serena’s played in it.

    • They being „whiteys“, right? „They“ started to count slams at the end of Serena‘s career because reaching 24 would have been the only relevant record for Serena. No Golden or at least Grand Slam. Not even half the title as Evert and Navratilova. By far the worst career match winning percentage. Not even one slam final win against a top 10 ATG. 3 or more slams won only in 2 years. Only at least 3 slams on every surface. So reaching 24 or 25 would have brought her into the GOAT discussion. It was not to be.

    • I’ve seen two different ATG lists when Serena had 10 slams they had Court with 11 only when Serena passed Steffi’s 22 they put that old haggard lady back on the map with 24 intentions were clear by the media

  • Her movement in court is completely gone, it seems like she is never get in position to hit her shots like she used to. And its been going on for past 3 years but it's getting worse now.

  • I tak jest mega mistrzynią.

    • Raczej była mistrzynią, teraz to już taka trochę żenada, chyba na koniec jakąś kontuzje chce załapać

  • Serena Williams should now be playing in the Legends Category 🙂

  • Belinda 👏👏👏👍

  • It’s obvious - Both Serena and Venus will retire together in a ceremony at the US open in a few weeks.

    • @Pierpaolo Condorelli I remember seeing a video relatively recently with one of the two mentioning that they both would play until they both retire together. ☺️

    • We hope so, you play the game to win, you just don't play. Venus and Serena are not playing to win anymore, everyone can see that, the earlier they retire the better.

    • @Pierpaolo Condorelli Hopefully not, I still love watching Venus play, and get beaten in first rounds.

    • Are you sure? This 'd be great Both Williams will retire

  • Yes now that Serena💚 is going to expand her family, this may be one of her last matches. Still has the game, moveability a bit limited 🚀💫

    • Lmao! She has the move ability of an elephant!

    • It's not her Last match do you follow tennis?? She's playing Cincinnati and us open

  • Serena actually played better than her first round match. But Belinda had better shot selection. This match overall was a good one and competitive compared to the others earlier in the day. Serena has one more dance at the US open.

    • @Aaron Jordan cool !

    • @T mo yes she is

    • @Juan Manuel Portillo I did actually watch that match and it wasn't good. Both players had over 50 unforced errors, so they were not playing they were not playing their best games.

    • I don't know what other matches earlier in the day you watched, but your comment shows you missed Rybakina vs. Gauff

    • Isn’t she playing Cincy?

  • Amazing tennis!

  • Serena clearly has trouble moving around, credit to her for making to this stage of the competition.

  • Congratulations 🥳 Canada 🇨🇦

  • good effort Serena, it's just not that easy to win against seeded players who are match tough....

    • Serena hasn't been able to run balls down for years, she can only lumber to them.

  • great job Belinda! Not impressed at all. Very cool.

  • Serena is the best of the best ever! Be happy and healthy!

  • Serena is a great champion but she is also a lot older. I think she'll have to work a lot harder on her fitness if she genuinely wants to get back to top status again

    • Look, Serena has said that she is retiring from tennis and is now "evolving," whatever that means.

  • I have nothing but respect for Serena and the tremendous gift she has been to tennis, but this match was glaring evidence of how her time come and gone. I wish hermuch happiness on her next chapter in life.

    • She still helps you

  • Having the courage to walk away when you're at the top deserves a "Hero of the Soviet Union" medal, and this American grandmother couldn't do that. She even misses her cocky arrogance.

    • @Rayshaun Jordan Or the constant Serena Serena Serena, even when she loses, even when she's not in the bloody tournament!! It's a media thing really, I hate them not Serena. They make Raducanu a darling (I like Emma and hope she does well), and refuse to show Hurkacz or Swiatek at all. (Until they get so good that there is no other option, but they never used to show Iga's matches.) Thank you Belinda, and now we can enjoy Belinda's next match without that other crap.

    • @Radu Radonys I agree and fortunately now you will have to find a new person to talk shiz about :)

    • @Rayshaun Jordan You know why some players get mostly nasty comments while others don't? Because they deserve them.

    • The best thing about Serena retiring is not having to read these nasty comments about her performance anymore, now I can breathe and enjoy the comment sections again.

  • l told you already Serena, has the will, strenght, mental toughness, she is a great champ.. but her body is saying she is tired every time she is inside the court... she was already struggling in the 1st round, 5 more matches coming up, how long she can withstand playing.... she is old, slower, and heavier, she should retire and focus in her life as a mother and wife.....

  • Serena is kind of old already. Her timing is late that's why she cannot control the ball and missed points. But I'm proud of her because she still continues what she loves most in her life. TENNIS 👏🥰😍❤️❤️💗💗👋

    • Give it a rest we know how old Serena is, worry about your favourite players who will never get to wear Serena is...

  • Thank you so much Bencic.

  • I dont know why Serena is still playing. A slow footwork, many unforced errors.. Its obvious she is a 41, yo mom but its impossible for her to beat Margaret's Court 24 GS.. To me, she would have retired some years ago... However, serena is a legend

  • She is also VERY lucky that she is even playing tennis. If it wasn't the US Open when she threatened to shove the ball down the lines woman's throat, denied saying it, then the court microphones picked it all up, hell she would of got banned anywhere else, not just fined. You were only embarrassing yourself staying out too long when you were slow & overweight.

    • Oh go see a therapist about this. You're clearly traumatized over this

  • I will miss her. I'll miss watching her lose which is so much fun. I'll watch Coco Gauff. Whether she wins or loses she's very nice and professional.

    • Guess you missed Gauff throw her racquet and nearly hit a ball person at USO doubles final. She too is human. HUMANS have emotions. Serena had maybe 3 emotional outbursts in over 1000 pro matches played. That’s 0.3% or less. She is known and celebrated for her renowned sportsmanship, fairness and genuine appreciation for the game and her fellow players. Gives the most sincere handshakes, eye contact and claps for opponents good shots. Unlike 95% of the entire WTA.

    • No contests. Really time to retire.

  • Bencic’s outfit is clearly inspired by Serena’s 2007 Miami kit. Colors, piping, lines… designed to a T as an homage to 2007 Miami by Serena/Nike.

  • Good training for Bencic

  • I love Serena and she is my Goat but I'm just really surprised that her and her team were not able to get her fitness and nutrition back to the level of Winning another Slam. She was right there and so close by getting to 4 Grand Slam Finals but the difference was her fitness and nutrition. These women on Tour are ridiculously fit, lean and their nutrition is on point. I was hoping that Serena would lose 15-20 more lbs but unfortunately it never happened. Nevertheless, still a Goat career. I sure would love to see Serena play Coco Gauff before she retires though.

    • @Darren Davenport Everyone in their right mind knows that Serena would beat the breaks off of Margaret Court. Just go look at the videos of Margaret Courts highlights and matches. #lmao

    • @jeffrey woodruff No.

    • @Carrera U well I guess it's a good thing Serena wasn't hammered in the 23 Grand Slam Finals that she won, right???

    • Serena was hammered in all 4 of those finals. As usual when she loses a slam final.

  • Thank You Bencic.

  • I would love to see Belinda playing at 40 with an opponent half of her age, killing and smashing tennis balls that she can't reach, she can't defend, she can't read. A resilient Serena still playing amazing. Still a fan, Serena!

    • What kind of shitty backhanded compliment is that ?

    • Bencic will have the good sense to retire at an earlier age.

    • Alright calm down. Bencic is a good sport, just playing her natural game.

  • ITS SAD TO SEE OLDER PLAYER TO BE DESTROYED . one must know to get out in time!!

  • Thank y Serena so happy 😁 proud to be Canadian call Canada 🇨🇦 home 🏡

  • The crowd was really behind Serena, but Bencic got a solid win, fair and square. You could see Serena's age and bodily wear and tear over the decades. Her movements were sluggish and laboured, but she did much better in the second set. Congrats to Belinda, one of my favourite players, but I wanted Serena to win.

    • A prime Serena would have routed Belinda. But fact remains that time can't be defeated.

  • One should leave when the applause is loudest! Thank you Serena for terrific entertainment! You came, you saw, you conquered! Saddle your horse with your head up high! Love you Serena!! All the best!!😍

  • Serena lost to Bencic who lost to Bia! Go, Bia. Voa!!! 🫵🏽🫵🏽🎾🎾🎾🤩🤩🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷

  • Belinda is such a pretty girl and such a pretty game as well

  • Am proud of you Selina

  • Yea let’s go Canada 🇨🇦

  • Out of shape Serena took 4 games in the 2nd set? She still can compete.

  • She was a very good champion and with unbeatable record. Coming back easy?....NO! Its impossible. Age is chasing her along her overweight body that slows her down. Thats the fact. Live with it. Cheers.

  • Serena is the undisputed GOAT but I really hope she calls is quits soon and forgoes any drawn out farewell tour. She’s too great for that and I’d hate to see her lose matches unnecessarily. She’s clearly lost a lot of her foot speed and conditioning.

    • @Haroof Look, we all know that the 2022 U.S. Open will be Serena's swan song. What better place to end your career. On American soil with thousands of fans rising to their feet and thanking you for your time spent on the court and working your magic! Happy Trails, Serena!

    • Steffi is the GOAT according to almost all polls.

    • Graf = GOAT

  • Bencic looked pretty good.
