Burning magnesium singes my eyeballs

Magnesium metal is one of the lightest metals and it's commonly used in a lot of things, like cars and electronics. But what I think is really interesting about it, is what happens when it's lit on fire. It burns with a blinding white light, that singes your eyeballs. It's notoriously hard to put out, and it can explode if you put water on it. It can also burn under sand, and CO2.

  • Fun story: my cuzion was blinded when my uncle lit a ton of this stuff

  • Cause it's in fireworks

  • In the navy, if magnesium catches on fire they have to throw it over board or it will burn through the hull because of how hot it is. It's also used in alot of muntions because of the high burn temp

  • WHY ISN'T EVERYONE WORSHIPPING JESUS CHRIST RIGHT NOW AND OBEYING HIS COMMANDS????

  • Can you do One on Iridium?

  • In welding it's also dangerous trust me I saw this stuff explodes and it's not pretty

  • You can make explosives with that?

  • No wonder my car exploded when the firedepartment try to shower it

  • THE FUMES ☠

  • If anyone wants to know. Older Ford explorers have magnesium core supports. Cheap big piece of magnesium. Have fun

  • So how do you put it out though

  • Did you know? Dragon breath shotgun shells producing by magnesium

  • No one gonna say how magnesium is one of the component of stun grenades? Lololol

  • In other words nothing that wasn’t taught in middle school

  • How do you stop that?

  • Oh that's why car caught on fire and blast easily,😂

  • I own a machine shop and had a job once cutting on magnesium. We had a barrel of the magnesium chips that had been cleaned out of the machine sitting near a work bench where someone began grinding on some steel sending sparks into the 50 gal barrel full of magnesium. When the fire department showed up they immediately began putting the magnesium fire out with water... you wanna talk about an explosion!

  • Great to know this is used in cars

  • Okay now start a fire

  • U know what else is interesting about it? Filling a hollow-point bullet with magnesium (or sodium) and then firing it at a watermelon. The explosion is amazing.

  • Don't be shy put water on it

  • There's an incident happened in our school, where a new chemistry teacher conducted an experiment with a class that uses magnesium. The teacher told the student to use the tiniest amount of magnesium in the water. However, there's one student threw a huge chunk of magnesium into the water, causing it to explode. The explosion was so loud my class can hear it from below (the lab's at the first floor). The beaker used to hold the water shattered to pieces and hit the student's face. The new teacher was blamed for the incident. The explosion left a black mark on the ceiling.

  • KNO3 + MG = FLASHBANG/FLASH GRENADE . . . . . . . . jok😆

  • It's also used for flares in fighter jet due to the heat produced so a missile will track on it And it was used in the firsts flashes for old cameras

  • Who taught he will pour water. Like he usually do the dangerous things that he says not to be done.

  • Yeah it's way brighter irl

  • Put it in a vacuum chamber

  • 2Mg +O2 -> 2MgO .... And it burns with a white dazzling flame(Learned that in school) 😅

  • Me who plays csgo: Where white screen

  • I thought there was water in the first second

  • My grandpa said that during his career as a machinist, an apprentice mistook a plate of magnesium for a plate of aluminum, and used it as a tray to put parts in the kiln for heat treat. The kiln caught fire and they had to evacuate the building.

  • why does he talk so weird? why do tik tokers talk like this? Jesus christ talk normally

  • This is one of the experiment my science teacher performed in our class when I was in 8th standard.

  • No tiktok shit...just some good og man ID-tv content

  • I remember when my 8th grade science teacher burned some magnesium in front of us and one of my classmates went "Jesus is that you?" 😅

  • My cousin once put a strip of this in his friend's cigarette for a goof

  • It's the 😎😎😎🌞🌞🌞🌞😎🌞😎🌞😎🌞

  • Me: Say it. SAY IT! Nile: This is a BUNCH...

  • The “singe” is from ultraviolet light. Lol. Don’t look directly at it for more than a split second or you’ll permanently damage your retinas.

  • I figured the old unburnable Flame use in the Pass it's This haha I did it

  • This metal is the reason you get flashbanged.

  • If I'm not mistaken, VW beetle engine blocks used to be made out of magnesium. Crazy.

  • It was sold as kind of firework in my country... Magnesium Shaving 😁

  • Chuck a load in a pool please?:)

  • Tern it into magnesium nitrate

  • So this is how alien spaceships produce that intense fire below.😮😮😮.they have learned to control the POWER of Mg😅

  • Is this what stars are made out of?

  • "it can explode in contact with water" Me: i've been 'accidentaly' lighting ours on fire for years and putting it out with water 😶, well that could've gone wrong

  • It’s enough to blind you if you do it in darkness.

  • White Amaterasu

  • That was the problem when in the past battleships were built of this.

  • Why didn't you pour water on it..

  • This is why when aircraft catch on fire on a military ship they are normally jettisoned. Class D fires are no joke on a ship.

  • "it can explode on contact with water" My fucked up brain : "Hey, you can make a death trap out of that"

  • I remember doing this in grade 9, my one buddy sneakily reached over and said”just gonna snag me some magnesium” he was comedian type kid, next day I asked him about it and he said he Almost burned his house down

  • Why keep sharing dangerous experiments with the public? Somebody is going to see this and get hurt.

  • I wonder if you can make a sword out of it

  • I remember reading that during the north africa campaign in ww2 the allies threw magnesium flares at night at the axis positions for illumination and subsequent bombardment. The fact that sand wouldn't put the flare out was the main reason for using these specific type of flares.

  • So how to put out the fire?

  • You said explode and I was getting excited

  • I remember this experiment at school when my teacher, who's usually way too ignorant of safety rules, got a small block of magnesium, set it on fire and dropped it into a beaker with water... the beaker exploded and glass flew across the classroom but we were fine B)

  • ..”Notoriously hard to put out” Mildly drops it on table and extinguished it.

  • Isnt this the stuff that gives flashbangs the...flash?

  • I think it is dazzling white light

  • The only man who doesn't put cringe titles and actually does good content that people enjoy

  • Water gun+this=flamethrower

  • Watch this burning white light that can singe your eyeballs!

  • They used to make racing car chassis out of this. The key words being, "used to".

  • Magnesium tracer rounds?👀

  • Amaterasu

  • It also burns under water

  • Can u put water on it?

  • And this is on cars? Huh. Neat.

  • Burn in co2?

  • Put water on it

  • Burns under water and exploded in water. CHOOSE ONE!

  • Discord bright mode:

  • imagine a magnesium incense stick

  • It makes MgO

  • How do you put it out then if for example the magnesium wire was infinite?

  • There was a magnesium molding shop next to my dads machine shop and one of the molds had water in it from cleaning and it exploded onto a guys shoulder and burned him really bad and my friends brother saw it all happen

  • Petition to put it on water while its burning

  • Just put it in water....all of it...

  • Fiendfyre.

  • “Flash out!”

  • me waiting for u to put water on it 😅

  • Civilians: oh metal.. Military: oh weaponized metal that he can use in high explosive or other weapons that it will cause excessive damage we they try to put it out.

  • Ive sone that in my school....a nd that thing goes really bright like 10x more than your smartphone display...maybe more

  • Thanks I'm blind

  • bro why did I smell it when he lit it on fire

  • yeh in the le mans disaster in 1955 the car was made of magnesium and you could see the extremely blinding white bursts of flames

  • Is liquid nitrogen effective?

  • Isn't magnesium what thermite mainly consists of?

  • We used to get the little fire starter kits in Boy Scouts that had a big chunk of magnesium and throw them in the fire. They would take a long time to go off so it was usually quite a surprise

  • Used to love that experiment in school steal the roll light it and throw it almost as clever as turning the bunsen burner tap in to a flame thrower 🤫 because sciance 😅

  • Get it ppl it’s in phones and cars

  • Did he just say in co2?

  • Why didnt you film yourself pouring water over it?

  • The should add this into Minecraft LOL

  • Magnesium: super light but charges on fire Honda motorsports 🤫
