@Banned_and_Redacted not a new game. It literally replaces CSGO and is handled as an update on Steam. It uses the same Steam items as CSGO (skins, creates etc). It's similar to when DOTA 2 was ported to Source 2.
@Dripik sequel wouldn't be excitinf at all why fix when csgo is best and perfect cs. It can only get better from here on source 2. And smokes are amazing those who cries are just too slow. Nades only make it dissapear for like a sec and bullets only disperse smoke on sides not in middle people i love howany people who complain about such things when they stopped playing csgo in first place. @Dirpitz So far it looks like csgo assets put in a slightly updated source that could have been done in a patch but they want to charge for it.

@Sunsetbear If you were spamming them then you were using them wrong to begin with. What you see as spam could also be a well thought out strategy or tactic as smokes were used both offensively and defensively. Now this removes that because all someone has to do is replace the smoke effect with one more transparent and justify it with they could see through the smoke and it be valid. Also it removes all reasons why you would throw a smoke at the enemy team to blind them, and it removes the reason why you would throw it down for cover and subgiated it to a single minor inconvenience distraction to try to throw the enemy team off. Which is why you would see people throwing them at doors on dust2 and then not using it because they went to flank or attack from a different point or in cs1.6's case to make the enemy team waste ammo and thus money by shooting at nothing, but that game you could shoot through some walls and doing so often either was a signal that you were really good at knowing the spot or you were hacking. This is the only use for it with this really other than to minor inconvenience annoy someone using a awp or scout.
Exciting to see new features like this, but the prospect for a better anti cheat is what I'm the most hopeful about.

@NinjapowerMS I don't think CSGO needs a lot of new mechanics and features - this look like it could work, but for a game as defined as CSGO new features must be very carefully considered. Would be nice if valve had other games they could experiment on though

Surprised that noone seems to be talking about the change to the recoil animations and how like valorant they now seem to follow the spray pattern. Unless that was introduced in a different update? This is a really awesome change especially for newcomers to the game and giving players feedback within the game, rather than people just googling spray pattern vids.
It's gonna be interesting if silenced weapons have the advantage to NOT clear the smoke. Currently they dont have tracers, so spamming smokes is kinda safe. Would be sick if this mechanic also works with the new smokes.

Well you could briefly clear, for a awper. Imagine, learning another set of smoke clearing angles, as well as smoke throwing. Timing and distraction would be on another level.
@Six Chiller counterstrike obviously isnt made to be realistic, its made the be fun. you can see it in the smoke itself. in irl it might take up to 30s for a smoke cloud to form instead of a quick poof
@Six Chiller you have a good point. But FPS games already has a lot of things that are not following the real world physics, so, why not make this thing with silencers really ? I think it's a small but interesting way to improve the unsilenced use of weapons.
Well if they stay with the physics, that would not matter - as it is the bullet itself that clears the smoke and the bullet is there, whether its a silenced weapon or not. But lets see, could be though :D
This is really cool I hope that this ends up being as balanced as it is gorgeous I don't normally love this style of Sim shooter but I'm hoping there's a game mode added that I can enjoy

Wish COD had something like that. So many times you’re blinded by smoke but the enemy kill cam shows little to none from their POV
the smoke dissipation feature is absolutely insane I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before Edit: the m4a1-s is indirectly getting nerfed by this feature, isn't it?
@히스 the part I find interesting from a tactical standpoint is how smokes interact with grenades The bullet holes I'm not so sure of
But if smoke gets carved by bullets, how are we going to cross a large cross section auch as dust 2 long cross and nuke outside cross? It would be just impossible to cross

@GamersOnly One of the advantages of the a1-s is that you can shoot through the smoke with no tracer bullets, so the opponent does not know where you're shooting from. That's why I'm saying this mechanic shouldn't apply to suppressed weapons.

Blowing holes in the smoke with bullets and grenades is such a cool mechanic
In a way cool it will be more dynamic and interactive, not a static visual block you play around, though I wonder also how many random crap may happen from different enemies interacting with same smoke with you near it or even within it. This could be rather chaotic, so approach will have to have more caution if say smoke reveals you to multiple enemies different angles.
I think it’d be cool if it relocated or pushed the smoke away from the explosion rather than disabling that area

I'm excited to see how Valve will adapt the CS2 experience for the Steam Deck! They'll surely want it to be a great experience on it!
Even in an oversaturated and usually uncreative game genre like most realistic shooters, Valve still somehow manages to create really cool things without breaking any core fundamentals of the game that made it great in the first place.
I like how they seemingly changed all the weapon sounds EXCEPT the AWP.

@1tsamee Source lasted this long because Valve doesn't know the number 3. UE3 lasted long because both players and developers liked it, many different studios (even big ones) used it, not just UT modders and indie devs.

Insane, this would add another layer of gameplay mechanics. Yeah you can shoot through smokes to confirm anything from the other side, but in the sacrifice of giving away your position to enemy players.
@xxtoxii youre literally getting a tunnel to see where youre shooting. Imagine if youre CT on Inferno top mid. Terro smoke you out to push mid, and you just start spraying and get the few miliseconds of advantage reaction time to see where they are. Before this you were basically shooting randomly through smoke or at least had to know exact positions on the map to smokebang. Shooting through the smoke revealed your position with sound and tracers. Now you just get extra safety to get a kill.

Kinda removes the entire mechanic of ninja defusing though.
Consider the following, vents that get flooded with smoke to other exit, that exit being somewhere else on the map.

The smgs bullets should fallow the smoke and draint it out by a little bit , so you would need more smg bullets to clear the smoke , while assault rifle bullets should push away the smoke . If that makes sense anyway .

SMK counter MOLOV, GREN counter SMK. Yeah, its truely amazing how it works and adding more strategies in gameplay. Ts must play quickly when they decide to go to the site. The light in game maybe changed when ovepass seem dark. Interacting lighting SMK is funny and it can distract the eyes in short time. The effect of MOLOV is so real. Hope the recoil does not change much.

@Szymon X you are speaking too soon. We are used to very small incremental changes as CS players so this reaction is understandable but we need to see how it plays out in actually for both casual and competitive players.

wow this is funny, I spoke about this a couple of years ago with a friend, why smoke in games are not more dynamic, no games would be alike, because even if you throw the smoke at the same spot and shot at the same placement, the dynamic of the 3D object will eventually bounce differently. we spoke also about having a randomized behaviour when shooting (even if its just a small one) so no spray should show the same pattern, this way, players need to think before they try to maul down 3 players infront of them.

this is amazing and i can't wait to play! i hope they can make a real live leaderboard system too based around win loss ratio similar to the dota 2 leaderboards and change it to a points system for matchmaking- where top players in the region can get noticed and climb to the highest mmr. might make for longer queues if you are in the top 1% (maybe an extra 5 minutes tops depending if people queue instantly after a match) but you'll be playing against the best players in the world in your region. the report system will likely get a massive update too and a lot more cheaters will get banned in the new cs go. its A LOT harder to cheat in dota and win a game compared to cs go but with the proper report system these cheating accounts will never climb the ranks or make it out of silver/gold without getting banned or they'll get mass reported which forces the player to play 5 "low priority" unranked games.

@Tano Dz Rather all the ways to completely nulllify what smoke grenades did for CSGO. You both cant spam it safely with silence weapons anymore and it completely eradicartes any chance for ninja defuse if all the have to do is shoot around you to see you clearly. Ninja defuses were already hard and relied on fact they couldnt see you.

Not sure I love the art direction, but very excited to play CS 2.
I think that overall this is definitely an upgrade but I'm really disappointed at the flatter, less atmospheric lighting/art direction in some maps that are showcased on the "Limited Test" webpage.
Valve made a really worthwhile game, congratulations they did it at least according to the trailers
