We've seen a lot of Spider-Man lately. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and soon Spider-Man: Far From Home. Before that we saw Andrew Garfield slinging webs with Emma Stone for a couple movies, but I want you to think FURTHER back. That's right, I'm talking Tobey Maguire Spider-Man.
Remember how at the end of his first movie EVERYTHING had gone wrong? Norman Osborn - the Green Goblin - was gone, his best friend was fatherless, Uncle Ben did what all Uncle Ben's do, etc.. It was all very sad. In Spider-Man 2, we see a Spider-Man without his powers. I want to talk about WHY he lost his powers. What made our friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man just plain, old Peter Parker?

  • 3 peters died this year infinity war, into the spider-verse, and the one from gwen's flashback

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

  • The movie literally tells you the mystery behind it matpat, you literally wasted a video

  • This theory actually lines up with what happens in the comics too: in the original 60s comics, right before his first fight against the Sinister Six, Peter *also* ends up losing his powers because of the stress caused by his superhero life only to recover them once he gets his personal life together. Knowing that, it becomes clear that the movie very likely was adapting that element from the comic books, just not being as on the nose about it as the comics were.

  • He made a tenacious D reference YESSS

  • Why is the PS2 Spiderman 2's Pizza Delivery theme so damn good?

  • Pizza time !!!

  • Pizza time !!!

  • *P i z z a t i m e*

  • The original Sam Raimi Spider-Man did come out 17 years ago as of 2019, but Spider-Man 3 came out in 2007.

  • Nice intro now you we need a animation or anime of it

  • F

  • I really wish we got spider man 4 out of that to bad toby Maguire is to old for it now the 4th movie would have been gold

  • Wow Stan Lee would be proud. This actually makes sense!😮

  • Did you really did that

  • Spider-Man and iron man vs zombies the case of the whole thing and me

  • F

  • Man you are short on things to make a show about huh. Everyone knew this already

  • nice title

  • I wanna know what happened to the spider that bit him

  • Oh yeah, Tom Holland's spiderman is totally dead, he's definitely not gonna be cheaply resurrected later. Marvel totally had the guts to permanently kill off all of their not only most popular but also for the most part newest hits. Nope. No impending resurrection to see here. None whatsoever

  • _Theory Man_ should have had the _Pepsi Man_ theme song.

  • F

  • F

  • F in the chat for spider man

  • 11:01 🤣

  • I see it's a Spiderman theory and I know spiders will be in it annnnnnd ... I still click R.I.P.

  • I had all of these... when my uncle past away...

  • F

  • We know spider powers are connected to emotions since in into the spider verse miles has to relax to stop sticking

  • What the.... I got the spideman far from home add😂

  • His emotional state has always been a noted factor in his power loss. Nothing new.

  • Stan Lee and Steve Dickto purposely created him like that to make him more down to Earth than most Marvel superheroes. That's why the people love him as an underdog, instead full front hero.

  • I actually love this. It adds a more interesting layer to an already good movie.

  • Can you pppllleeeaaassseeee do a theory on the princess bride? Loved the video ❤️

  • Are you braindead

  • That intro is so scuffed... I love it!

  • This is the best early birthday present. My birthday is 1-11

  • Good job, you figured it out. It was all in his head. Too bad the movie already explains this, and it wasn't a gap in the story to begin with...

  • Love the intro! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

  • That theory man suit low key looks awesome

  • *_0/10 no credit to the creators or link to watch the movie_*

  • why everything on this channel about ptsd i love it but too much :(

  • Well that was certainly an intro

  • This is more of an explanation video than a theory. A movie can't possibly give you all the exposition that like a book can. So it's up to the audience to have the intellect to pick up what the producers are putting down, if you know what I mean. It was pretty obvious to me (r/iamverysmart) but I do get how it can get overlooked by the casual movie watcher. Great explanation though; I honestly did learn a lot. Had this movie been a book, I'm sure this would've been better explained, maybe not in this great of detail though.

  • I didn't connect the symptoms with PTSD itself, I thought this was pretty obvious that he got his powers back after he started dealing with his life and feelings.

  • neighbor girl had some bad ass hips, i'd brake that b****.

  • You can find a thyry in every thing

  • As much as I love the video I dont know why people keep on trying to find the secret formala. In the second Spongebob movie one of the characters yells and says its love.

  • MARIO MARIO HE JUST LOOKS LIKE WARIO...

  • Idc. The amazing Spider-Man with Andrew Garfield was the best

  • 8:23

  • Stop say in Mr stark I don't feel so good it makes me sad omg

  • F like They said when Kevin the Cube died . F

  • Heya! I LOVE your channel and shows. Incredibly well done :) I did have a theory... well a question really... that I'd be curious if you would follow up on. In Avengers 4, we see that Thanos is from Titan, a world he claims like "so many. Too man mouths, not enough food". Yet, as a "titan", Thanos is one of his race... but Thanos is seemingly immortal. Living an incredibly long time and, above all else, able to wield not one but all infinity stones. Now, he might have been imbued with powers, but as a typical titan, would he not be bound by their life span and abilities? And, if he is typical, wouldn't the rest of his race therefor be 'immortal'? Just a thought! Cheers!

  • I knew it was psychological

  • 4:05 Ok, that jab at andrew garfields Spiderman was too soon.

  • Light green is a good look for Spiderman

  • "Get dumped on Andrew Garfield! *THUMP* I'M FUCKING DONE BRO OMGGGGGGGGGG

  • mat pat I found a channel that could help you do some more decoding on dhmis go to the channel called Don't Hug Me .I'm Scared News pls. for me

  • In the movie he's jealous of jonah's son for marrying MJ. In the same movie they also say "If you keep something as complex as love bottled up it can cause problems". That's why

  • MATPAT DID A OOPSIE!! 👏 👏

  • someone please make a motorcycle sound with his "aaaaaaaaand cut"

  • Guys i think the new Spiderman movie is a sequel to undertale

  • batbois : Batman doesnt suffer from any ailment. But his parents die- NO. AILMENT. But al ghoul came back to haunt hi- NO. AILMENT. But Bane almost broke his back and earlier in the film he needed extensive therapy from all the previous injurries he had suffer- -*NO. AILMENT.*

  • This theory is kind of bullshit, any avid viewer of the movie could've easily found this out themselves, also it's mentioned in the second one about keeping things bottled up.

  • just watch the cartoons on fox back in the 90's and you'll know. if you saw the x-men ones then the whole story from start to finish that's 1-3 in the movies copied the cartoons so much just watch the cartoon to get the same story, and not spend 65 bucks on a movie for 2.same with spiderman too.

  • I thought he lost his powers because he wasn’t fighting crime for a purpose as he lost MJ and then regained them when he got her back 🤷‍♂️

  • Did I miss something? Why does he say that Peter Parker isn't the one from those movies? It seemed pretty obvious that at least one of those older Spider-men was Tobey's Spider-man.

  • I mean they heavily implied it was a psychological reason why his powers went away when he was talking to the doctor and he said "we always have a choice". Basically being Spider-Man seemed to always getting in the way of his personal life (missing MJ's play, missing class, being late to deliver the pizza and then getting fired for it etc.) and he began to doubt himself on being able to live his own life WHILE being Spider-Man and he wondered if he even wanted the responsibility anymore. As we know with great power comes great responsibility therefor him subconsciously not wanting said responsibility his body followed in response and took the power away giving Peter what he thought he wanted which was his own life back.

  • F

  • So cool this makes 100% sense

  • F

  • *i always thought he lost his powers because MJ didn’t like him anymore and he got them back when she asked to kiss him*

  • Speaking of superheroes, I would like to see some physics about if Iron Man should be able to fly or not with his suit.

  • F

  • I thought that this had already been addressed. I knew this already from another ID-tv video.

  • idk why but this was all obvious to me

  • *F*

  • I think this video really started to help me understand certain issues I've been going through. Thank you

  • This video made me happy :)

  • Get dunked on Andrew Garfield!

  • 4:03 too soon, MatPat😂

  • You should find out why Spider-Man went from having powers and then to web blasters?

  • actually a mystery not solved for 15 years not 17 since he only lost his powers in the second movie which came out in 2004 not 2001 :D

  • Thank you...

  • F

  • F

  • is it weird that i knew this

  • That was the greatest intro ever.

  • Do a video on pink Floyd the wall

  • Except Spider man 2 is 2 years after the 1st film. It's clearly down to his issues of self confidence

  • Thank you so much for making this, I think that this is an amazing thing to spread, I am only ten but I often think about mental illness and I believe that therapists are mostly beautiful people, I take an interest in it, even though my plan is to be an author, I adore how you spread messages like this to young veiwers like me, as well, you help me alot, I often feel Im alone, I watch your vids, and I feel I'm not alone, I look in the comments and see alot of people like me, learning in ways we like, seeing how much time and detail you put in your videos, your my favorite channel, it is amazing work you do, my cousin has severe depression, and these videos, well I'm not sure if it helps her out exactly, but I can tell they make her happy, me and my cousin nerd out about stuff like marvle and undertale, and billions of other video games, I swear she's my role model, and you helping her means the world to me, please, all you hevenly angels who help put out these videos of perfection, please take the time to applaud yourself for you wonderful work.
