How to Make Firewood Cutting Machine DIY

Dipublikasikan tanggal 28 Sep 2022
In previous videos, we made various woodworking machines such as wood chippers and splitters, but this time we decided to do something that would make cutting wood into blocks a lot easier.

A 2.2 kW / 3 HP motor is sufficient for such a device. Even with high pressure, the chain turns without any problem.

Thanks to the foldable structure, the whole thing is very maneuverable and does not take up much space.

  • Awesome! I'd say if you had a drop table so the blocks wouldn't fall to the ground, and raise the splitter to a more comfortable height, you'd have the perfect setup!

  • Parabéns amigo gostei 👍

  • Awesome design and build! Thank you for your patience and understanding of how to make a great video and clear instructions without having to talk for me to clearly understand each step!

  • Your projects are always inspiring and so well done. Great job!

  • 19:00 I'd want to see a longer guard dangling down from the blade cover - maybe 20-30cm so it won't be in the way when the blade is up, but then it could be protected even while cutting the largest log. Granted you're probably not going to fall forward into the machine while holding the button. Very very cool build. Edit: 18:54 could add a spring-loaded arm to hold down the wood that travels in the same axis as the handle to hold down the wood, then no hands near the blade.

    • About your proposal for a second spring-loaded arm , personally I would like that one operated by foot ( pedal) because after some time the operator will be stressed out for continuously stretching out two springs by just one arm . And for safety you could attach a first electrical contact on the log-restraining arm , and connect it ( serial) with the start button .

  • Que trabalho lindo fantástico 👏👏👏

  • I've got a drill, hacksaw and file. Can I make one of those?

  • Do you know that a 3-phase normal electrical motor can produce approx. 4 times its nominal power, which means your 2.2 kW motor gives approx. 9 kW if needed. Just ideal for cutting firewood. A few seconds lasting overload doesn't damage the motor. A longer lasting overload would overheat it. This is why it would be a good idea to install a thermoelectric motor protector to protect the motor from overheating. I don't see one here. Greetings from an electrical engineer.

  • That is the work of a master craftsman. You could create anything in that workshop! Lots of skill involved and way beyond the capabilities of this DIYer.

  • Great skills, great ideas, great editing! Thank you for sharing!

  • Great, love the saw and the splitter! Wish I had this when I was doing my small commercial firewood biz back in the day.

  • Parabéns muito engenhoso!

  • Well thought out design, excellent performance. Viewed for the second time. Thank you.

  • Masz talent. Lubię to.

  • Dobry i przydatny sprzęt. Szacun 😎

  • Yeah, yeah ……I built two of those last week in my kitchen. Honestly, a skilled machinist like you is critical to the advancement of our society. Always has been always will be. Thanks for sharing your creativity and talent for everyone especially young people.

  • Beautiful Design and build! Oh, to have a vertical mill. I could build the rest of the tools using it...but to find one is next to impossible. I have been watching for one to come available for 50 years! Thanks for all your pretty work! A word of caution, I saw a picture of a guy's eyeball with a sliver of steel sticking out of it. It was gross! That picture kept my safety glasses on at all times, plus the frustrations of goggles fogging up, every time metal was being cut. (I've been an accomplished machinist/tool designer for over 55 years, and have seen others who refuse to wear their PPE, and got injured. One time high pressure adjusted my goggles and I got metal dust in my eye, but it didn't stick in...just scratched the eyeball, which was bad enough! It proves that all accidents CAN'T be prevented, but I held my breath as I saw you without any type eyeware on, and you cutting, drilling, grinding. That's like playing Russian Roulette with your eyeballs. You've only got two of them. You have a beautiful shop. Folks are watching YOU use those machines. You're, in essence, their teacher. PLEASE wear your PPE, if for nothing but to pass on good safe work habbits to your viewers. It's much easier to see what you're doing with TWO eyeballs! End of rant. I just hate to see you risk your eyes, while being genius in the design shop.

  • These tools should be patented, really amazing skills and ingenious ideas!

  • Absolutely excellent, as always. Cheers.

  • very cool equipment love the electric power. one question though, why is that splitter so close to the ground? makes my back hurt just watching. very talented metal work *****

  • Kawał dobrej roboty!

  • Muito prático.

  • Very impressive work. You're very skilled at what you do. Great job as always.

  • A combination of the disadvantages of a circular saw and a chain saw, while having no advantages. Love it :)

  • The speedy splitter is what could really make a great difference for a firewood machine I've been wanting to see someone build it

  • I love this so much it looks so much safer than what my husband and I are doing

  • Respect to the skills. And also amazing the whole machines and tools used to make it - I would love to have all of them, endless possibilities limited only to imagination.

  • Yes, 2 comments for 1 video. After watching you use the machine I just felt the need to say I think your videos are inspirational. It's good to see young(er than myself) people not afraid to work with their hands and make things to make life better. The last few generations seem to be moving to a buy-and-dispose mentality, when with a little effort things can be made, skills can be learned, and life can be improved.

  • Wow, nice video. I wish i had the skills and the machinery to make things like that!

  • Great idea and perfect work as every time ;)

  • Great project, very good cutting system, you should put on the market.

  • Really great machine. Would it be easy to use long term with a foot operated lever to pull down into log? Less fatigue... 😀

  • That's a beautiful thing! I often use my chainsaw to cut dimensional lumber for small projects, this is basically taking that to the next level and making a chop-saw, which can cut any kind of wood. I don't believe the safety is there, but the function is.

    • It's an excellent, efficient, machine. Both his hands seem safe, but I think a hinged cover hanging off the end of the top black guard would provide more safety from the exposed end of the chainsaw.🙂

  • I expected some kind of death machine but this actually looks rather practical and safe compared to other respected methods. Great craftsmanship. The splitter makes me a bit nervous but those perfectly sectioned logs from the chainsaw rig must be nice for stacking.

  • Mind of a machinist never stops at quitting time. Proper thing, looks safe and quick with the small wood.

  • I like to see this equiptment being constructed and put to use,Lots of good ideas.

  • Jesteś gość, świetna robota👍

  • Both machines look like nicely thought out details and work well on birch soft wood. Just not sure how well they work on bigger good hardwoods.

  • Nice job! I would like to see you rebuild your chipper from a few months ago. I am referring to the one that did not work very well. Beautiful job on this project! Keep it up!

    • Congratulations!! You have been selected among our shortlisted winners from our previous giveaway. To redeem your price, kindly text your full name to phone contact above. Thank You! 🎁

  • I really like your chaincover safety design! It's awesome!

  • Electricity is our friend. This guy is an amazing builder. I love seeing home made ingenuity.

  • This is genius. I've saved it and am going to make one myself.

  • To avoid early onset castration, a small guard over the tip of the blade might be a goid idea …

    • Or a redesign to operate it from BEHIND the chain! OUCH!

  • This is a great video overall! I'm really impressed with Your skills and Your dedication. Also, compared to some stupid goshdarn TikTok or Shorts videos, Your ideas actually make any sense, and are a tool that *helps* to do something instead of being just a waste of materials for some virtual clicks One thing I'd change if I were You though, would be the title... I mean... DIY is considered a type of video where a viewer can just sit down at home, do all the stuff shown in the video, and end up with the same (or similar) product. In Your case I'd change it to "self-made", or something along those lines, because DIY is a bit of a stretch when machining tools (e.g. the lathe) are involved.

  • Jesteś zajebisty! Gościu.... 👍👍🤩🤩

  • SUper robotę robisz i sie dzielisz, jedynie to mnie troche przejęło, że potrafisz się zapomnieć 2:13 powodzenia i jak najwięcej udanych projektów

  • PARABÉNS !!! 👏👏👏 VOCÊ É BEM CRIATIVO !!! 👍👍👍🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷😎😎😎

  • you are one Hell of a great machinist, such ingenuity, throughout the whole build

  • You're the Boss and you're well tooled! Thanks.

  • Man, the amount of time these two machines will save someone in preparing firewood is amazing! Brilliant project!!

  • No ładnie Ci to wyszło 👍👍👍

  • What a brilliant idea and a skillful workmanship ! Impressive.

    • Yes, as an engineer/welder he's very good.

  • You always make premium quality stuff man

  • Amazing fabrication skills, I would never use it because I would be to scared to be for hours or days on that side of blade.

  • Wonderful work. Good equipment! To become professionals, you need to know a lot and be able to work both with your hands and with your head. After all, the main tool of the master is sensitive hands and a bright head.

  • These setups work really well to cut firewood. I've always thought that the chainsaw is running a bit slow as the electric motor runs only at roughly 2700 rpm and they're designed to run faster but the cutting speed is very good. Keep up with these videos, they're great!

    • It's about being at maximum torque for best cutting. The battery electric chainsaws you can buy run a bit less than half the chain speed of a 2 stroke, but they cut just as well because there is no torque curve like an engine, it's just maximum torque all the time. The 2 stroke has a narrow band which is why they bog down if you let the revs get down too far. Same goes for an electric motor like this one, it is at 100% torque from 0 rpm to maximum rpm.

    • Petrol chainsaws run on around 12k up to 15k rpm, but no much torque, but tha chain speed is that mater on petrol chainsaw, if i recall corect, idle speed on petrol chainsaw is around 2000 rpm.

    • I too was a bit surprised how good it cut at about 2800 rpm as the motor used here. I'm not sure how fast a chainsaw engine runs, but I guess it's at least 5000-7000 rpm. Wonder if there exists chains designed for slower cutting that could be even more efficient?

  • Muito bom show de bola parabéns... Dale no Meio...

  • Awesome build 👍🏾 One suggestion the motor on-off will wear it out quickly, keep the motor running like your log splitter.

  • w dobrym momencie zrobiłeś ten film. Niejednemu się przyda 💪✌️

  • The workmanship making this is astounding a true craftsman

  • Marvellous, fascinating to see the build.

Sigan adelante. Gracias.

  • Parabéns, sensacional o seu trabalho.

  • Wow, such an impressive work, I like your simple and relaxing style, the editing are def the best, please keep updating!

  • Nice video. where can I find that wood splitter or is it home made?

  • Swietna robota

  • Brawo. Jesteś bardzo bystry ❤

  • Excellent work, where do I place my order and how much is one?

  • Its really cool.... I'Ve been thinking to make something similar.... Too sad, almost every cool machine needs a metal lathe to be crafted. :D

  • parabéns meu amigo chow de bola adorei 👌👍✌️🤝

  • I always enjoy watching you make things. You give me many ideas to try.

  • Solid work! A blade coming at me while I cut seems dangerous. Needs more guards also could you let the cut wood fall into a tray and connect the same ram into the same chassis combining the two machines into a singular action? Once the wood is cut falls into the track where the ram cutter is and automatically drives into the wood, splitting as you lift the handle

  • Nicely done. I'm envious of your metal shop and skills.

  • Genial, criatividade excepcional, parabéns!!!👏👍🤌

  • WELL DONE. I enjoyed watching you construct this one of a kind machine. I enjoy the same skill you have in thinking about a problem and then making something to solve it or save time doing a process. This keeps me jumping out of bed every morning.

  • What a really great build 👏 👌

  • Ideally, the operator should be on the hinge (motor) side with the operating handle shaped accordingly & a wood chip deflector. But in the configuration shown, at minimum, both the upper & lower blade guards should provide substantially more coverage of the blade.

  • Misiu złoty. Jaki to model piły do cięcia metalu masz?. Świetna robota jak zawsze. Pozdrawiam
