Mini Motorways - Manila (9000+ Trips)

After finishing the game I wanted to revisit Manilla to see how I would do if I applied what I have learnt.

  • Calling them 'buildings' seems too vague. I think I'll go with 'destinations'.

  • 12:18 I think it is a really efficient to reroute the middle red route through the river between 2 yellow malls. the yellow houses on the left could go to circle mall, the yellow houses on right could go to square mall. I dunno, I never played it. Am I dum?

    • red route circles the circle yellow mall

  • but.. both buildings are the same height

  • Skyscrapers are imax cimimas

  • i could sleep to this

  • Just started playing this week and my highest score is 886 😢. I have a target of 1000 by the end of the week lol. Thanks for this, it’s me me realise quite a lot of things o was doing wrong 👍.

    • I think you’ll definitely hit that goal. It takes a few days to get your rhythm with it and you are off and running. Good luck 😄

  • The poor green car at the bottom right at 25:13 that gets its road changed and ends up in a red house! :)

  • 11:00 imo you could have had dark blue running along Hwy 1 and connect the reds on the right with the dark blue Lv1 destination [In General] You could have had the path that yellow takes around the red destination at top loop around the upper end in order to keep the two from crossing paths, but that didnt really ever become a big deal 28:58 you now had two red spawns that you could hook up to where you put the south end of hwy 4, and then the light blue path could use a bridge to snake over the bit of water by the sw green lv2 destination [you could have reclaimed the bridge that you had connected to the northernmost red destination to those yellow homes in the middle-left of the map] nm you took the bridge back at 31:08

  • cinima

  • i love the manila is color blue. its reminds me all the old filipino movies

  • I can kinda see Manila in all those Motorways hahah

  • i don't even know why I'm watching this😨

  • small trick I learnt, dont connect your highways directly near the entrance. Tie it in 1-2 road blocks away, to allow the traffic to smooth out more. It prevents that blocking that happens at the destination entrance.

  • Having long shadows doesn't imply that it's a tall building. The sun could simply be low.

  • You have such a calm voice. The thing i need after a long day of work. Thanks bud, keep it up.

  • This game is a scam

  • Fantastic job! It's a lot like surgery in a way: "Doctor, this destination needs 6 CCs of cyan cars stat!" "I'll use this motorway to perform a triple bypass!"

  • it's funny too see how updates make this game more and more easy. Pointless now ! Keep crying for less diffy'culty and high sores blooming !

  • I live in Manila. It’s the best city ever!

  • "9200, not too bad" what??!!!! i have only seen people not being able to get over a 1500 points :D

  • 40:18. Says “okay a bridge” , then proceeded to choose stop light 😂

  • 25:16 green car went into that red house on the bottom right lol

  • I hope they will add a multiplayer feature on this game where if it is 4 players the materials will be divided by 4. If theres a bridge then the roads will be devided to the three players then the one player will receive the bridge.

    • you honestly should send this idea to the creators somehow, that would be amazing to watch

    • Working together or against each other? Either way that would be wild

  • The names for the circular buildings according to the game are "big business" buildings. Dont you read the daily?

  • 2:20 one youtuber playing this always calls the circles imax

  • Clean up yer stubs, dang it.

  • I quite like that different people give different names to the buildings. One person I watched called them factories, another person says theaters, or warehouses- I call them stores and malls. It’s fun that people have unique names

    • @Scott Wilkins He specifically says that for the Skyscrapers though

    • @Nik or brioche 😂

    • @Scott Wilkins and bread or ham 😂

    • Can’t forget Real Civil Engineer’s I-Max cinema

  • Fun fact: this probably has better traffic management than the real thing prepandemic.

  • dude you are on fire 🔥🔥

  • 16:59 its only 1006, nappa go f### him 45:15 wait i had my scouter upsidedown, its over 9000!

  • You have summoned the filipinos

  • what a great run! almost everything is so clean! how are people getting higher scores? they only control spawns or what?

    • @Drawing Dead yeah, seems like it. Everything you've done seems logical, couldn't be better than that.

    • From the feedback im hearing it sounds like spawn controls are the main way.

  • You are brilliant!!! Wow, so smart, great video ☺️

  • i think they are called supermakerts

  • I think traffic collisions would be the coolest addition to this game if they were able to implement it where it wasn’t just bad luck

  • No hate you did an awesome job but why leave so many houses not connected to anything. They would have had to helped some.

    • @Drawing Dead oh ok I see what you mean. This looks like a really fun game. Thanks for responding.

    • Sometimes they might, sometimes they might not. If i dont need them i find im better off leaving them disconnected so when i go “ok i need yellow houses” i can see a chunk of houses not attached - and so i know are free. Generally your problem will end up being road congestion not houses attached

  • “DD! What does the scouter say about his power trips?” “IT’S OVER 9000!!!” “What, 9000!? There’s no way that could be right!”

  • What hotkeys are you using to pause/speed up the game?

    • Spacebar to pause, arrow key to speed up the game

  • 25:15 if you look in the bottom right there is a green car going into a red house? Never seen that happen before lol

  • Pause the game and fix shit!

  • This made me so frustrated. I was screaming at the tv!

  • All those screaming Reds and it's a yellow that got ya.

  • All I can say is this is exactly manila

  • Our country be like

  • I thought I'd just watch but halfway through - I have to play.

  • Im surprised you did this incredibly well and did not use any blocking at all

  • The most common names I've heard are malls and imax's, works for me.

  • Skyscrapers and Markets, to me. The square ones remind me of grocery stores.

  • Interesting game, the key seems to be yet again maximising traffic capacity in/out at round level 2 dests and having locality (or fast motorway route) so journey times can tolerate delays. Traffic flows smoother with slip roads and roundabout as there's space for a queue without blocking other traffic, BUT the added distance adds time to every journey, so a reconstruction delay might be terminal. I am killing my cities lately, by grand restructuring which optimises, but doesn't stop deadly bad dest spawns, which I cannot possibly supply with cars, without a stack of motorways. Someone like HydroPhil has a style which avoids bad spawns, but also opens space for nearer housing spawns to supply dests. He seems to have learned the possibilities. From watching a developer video, housing colours are permitted in certain areas defined on the map. So being in tune with the map design, can result in a much cleaner city layout with things fitting together. Some maps, force tough choices, with larger more concentrated clusters and higher chance of mixed housing blocks.

  • damn did my first manila run last night and managed just shy of 9k.

  • It's over 9000!!! Jesus chtist you've gotta try aim for top score some time.

  • The moaning step-daughter holly unpack because pea probably encourage qua a instinctive niece. future futuristic, abortive panty

  • 5:48 - you can rearrange the bridge for the yellows by moving the bridge to the other side of the riverside house, and the would enable you to connect all of that suburb.

  • cutie

  • at 11:08 I think it's better if you connect the dark blue houses to the highway and then let them share it with the reds

  • IT'S OVER 9000!?!?

  • 11:11 excuse me? Wtf? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • i get soo happy when i see another of your videos in my feed. keep up the great work

  • You could definitely do Podcasts, I could listen to you talk for hours. Awesome videos, can't wait for more from you!

  • WHATTT I saw the title and thought it said 3000+ and was like "wow" BUT THEN I LOOKED AGAIN AND REALIZED IT WAS 9000+

  • Nice run! Getting close to that 10.000 trips!!

  • I really like your style of video, they’re very calming.

  • 25:14 green guy went in yellow "store" lol

  • Why is this game so addictive?

  • You forgot about the community of yellow in the middle for way to long

  • You made this look so effortless!!!I definitely struggle with changing roads and the “master” plan that I’ve created in my head, but now I see it works. Great video! Amazing score!!

  • Wow.

  • Call Them Casinos

  • Damn, I just call the buildings “dad”(it’s not ‘round) and “mom”(cause she was ‘round) (Don’t worry I have both parents and it’s just dark humor)

  • Something i never see you do is use motorways for more than one color, you could have easily tied the red with the blue right near the bridge on the right hand side, the motor way crosses over the blues path to connect to the red (12:40)

  • Recently found your channel because of this game. I adore watching them all and am quickly binging thru. Cant wait to see more!! ❤️

  • Mmm, the parking lot of a double-building space can be thought of as a roundabout with two exits, if that helps your analysis of it.

  • feel like traffic lights at that super late and congested stage are crucial. defs could have put them on the red yellow bottom left. also hope you having fun in lockdown - fellow Aussie from Melbourne

    • @Adesh Kantha Yeah, I know! I deliberately misunderstood for comedic effect. It's obvious you're not from the UK or Australia! Cheers.

    • @Nilguiri i think he meant felt bad for being in lockdown

    • @hornetDC Nothing wrong with being an Aussie.

    • I feel bad for you guys.

  • Awesome score! Well played!

  • This run was a chill one. Manila definitely the least stresfull map

  • Nice and smooth voice, love the new mic!

  • I love that you don’t cut your videos. That’s one of the many reasons why I like to watch them. Congrats to the amazing score!

  • I've never noticed that the buildings have shadows until you pointed it out and now I can't even watch it without getting bothered by them

  • This man is the OG in this game

  • Oh My dear God!! You really went for it 🤩💖

  • Is your mic new in this video? Sounds absolutely smashing 👌

  • After studying road hierarchy and reading through urban design articles, I have bother found a new interest and also a new hatred of Manila. I’m so close to 2000…

  • This is an insane score!

  • I feel that based on the nature of the specific drivers and building connections this game should be mini mail motorways or something. It's more like shipping routes that a driver might take for a specific business to a particular area than the roadways in a town. Obviously though it doesnt need to be perfectly accurate to be fun still

    • Yeah I agree, I feel like the way the routing mechanics are design, it is more akin to e.g. package routing using conveyor-belt / assembly lines inside a factory. But I completely understand their decision to market it as mini motorways, this is much more appealing (to the imagination) to people in general I think.

  • Yesterday someone got the first ‘Build 100 Tunnels’ achievement. I was 3 tunnels away… Well at least all of the achievements have been met.

    • @Sammy K. haha yeah, i played a LOT of Rio De Janeiro to get the tunnels. At least with the traffic lights you are getting 2 at a time

    • @Drawing Dead I just assumed that because it showed 0.0% is was unbeaten, but apparently it’s so rare you could see it unless you go an extra decimal. I have so many runs now where it’s just grinding for certain items, those are the most annoying achievements (especially the traffic light ones)

    • I got that achievement a couple of weeks back (it was the last one i got). It has sat as my rarest achievement in my achievement showcase that whole time. Does seem like one that will really drop once enough time has passed

  • I appreciate that you just get right into the content. i also like when you refer to the destination buildings "going circular' - reminds me of "going nuclear" like its about to blow up haha

  • Manila map is like big river 😂

  • Please make a Twitch account, would love to get some live commentary from you!

  • Day one of asking Drawing Dead for a Minecraft building series.

  • Absolutely loving all these videos (even though I end up falling asleep because everything about them is so calming)

  • Love the video!! Keep up the fantastic work :D

  • I think the lvl 1 buildings are supposed to be stores or supermarkets.

  • Since 4 way connections are so poor, I wonder if making roads with two 3 way intersections can add any extra efficiency, so that the road looks somewhat Z shaped. The context for this is some of the roads have 1 off houses that are blocked off by other colored roads might be able to lend just a little bit of extra capacity into the system, though efficiency might suffer long term from it. I do enjoy how this game always has a definite ending. The developers intended for the game to end around 10-20 minutes, but the communities problem solving has been able to stretch it out as much as possible. And to add onto that, I think you solved this level more or less as much as it could be. Wuselfaktor was strong

    • @Evan Nibbe lights work best where a quiet road with a few houses join a fast road at a T junction. Most main roads cars avoid slowing, the quiet road traffic waits, perhaps creating a bunch of cars, with a gap in front of it. That gap allows other cars to turn, clearing a route of waiting traffic. Putting lights at an entrance to a dest, actually reduces flow, as slow speed cars wait, the right turners stop too. With no lights, the slow cars enter/leave at max rate with no dead stationary time. Many high scores 100K don't have any lights, as they only help speed traffic in a compromised, mixed colour area, which will break down when level 2 round dests reach high demand

    • At houses, joining many to 1 road works as they are starting from rest and dests stagger demand. Similarly a Y near journey start doesn't clog, the cars will follow on a road with one slightly delayed. But if a queue tails back blocking another junction, it's not 1 car slowed but every car with much reduced road capacity. At round dests very high late game demand is focused on one point with in/out traffic in each others way, so they clog. Then any jam disrupting the flow is liable to tip the journey time into critical, as the cars are queuing nearly stationary. In general X roads are terrible as crossing traffic has to stop from full speed. Y junctions work better, until traffic is heavy, so I believe they suffice for groups of houses. 2 or 3 routes meeting at a roundabout with a slip road to the dest entrance is the most orderly way to feed a round level 2 dest. Double biz are problems as the 2 different colour traffic impedes each other in the car park, if the square dests traffic stalls then surges to catch up, that can be enough to put journey times of the other colour critical when the route is long or slow

    • @Evan Nibbe the problem there is, unlike a 4-way intersection with 2 stages, a 5/6-way intersection with 3 stages could mess up the other routs

    • I feel that every intersection causes cars to stop, so actually a 5-way or 6-way intersection with a light can work better

  • I love the longer videos :)

  • you good bro? you sound a little tired

  • 9k+ trips °o° Well played i guess

  • Wow, it's impressive how just 20 trip puts you back 400 positions on the leaderboard... Great video though!

    • It's like in many sports, a millisecond can be the difference between a world record and coming last

  • great job mate

  • What does your voice and the music on mini Motorways have in common? They are both REALLY soothing

  • Great run dude, so close to 10k!
