Solving the Minecraft Warden

Dipublikasikan tanggal 21 Mei 2022
The Warden is the newest addition to Minecraft and with the developers outright confirming it has lore to be discovered, obviously it had to be investigated. Enjoy this exploration as we uncover the deep dark secrets of the warden, and the unsettling story hiding behind its blocky features.

This is a series called Minecraft Wifeory where I explore the lore of the different parts of Minecraft to piece together a story of the game. Not Minecraft, but the water rises or Minecraft Manhunt but a more story telling based series dedicated to solving the lore of the game.

  • Sorry for the lack of videos until now but luckily most of my final exams are over which should hopefully mean more uploads more frequently :)

    • Matpats theory is better and makes more sense if you dont believe me go watch His theorys of the warden

    • I'm also in college I understand it's hard

    • congrats btw im subed

    • Theory, this might be mad but it makes sense to me. But I think that Steve is a creation of the illagers. More extreme than the vindicators but less extreme than the ravinger. Just in the middle. And if this is so than it explains quite a bit. Also look at the pots that weren't added they have lore to, instead of Steve we have Alex. It seems to me a prophecy is of foot. But this is food for thought though.

    • We all know this theory

  • the spinning axolotl glitch was intended, if they spin enough the centrifugal force elongates them into wardens

  • ur closer and closer to 1.5m, congrats you deserve it wifies!

  • The warden is such a strange mob, it changes the entire game when it comes to minecraft. When you enter an ancient city it becomes a whole new game, a borderline horror game. Sneaking around, hoping to not summon this beast. It has so many detailed animations, including a summoning animation. It feels like it’s from a different game, which is what it is supposed to be, a being from somewhere else

    • incredible how versatile a game made of blocks can be. really goes to show how a little ingenuity can make for such interesting results.

  • Matpat after watching this be like: *"Hello Internet, welcome to Game Theory. The show that keep the viewer in deep dark about everything"*

    • I think they are both good theories just wiggles has more stuff in it and expands on matmats

    • Ngl I liked this more then mat pats theory

    • @jelly youtuber jellymid 🗿

    • Yeah i was very weirded out of how he said it like the knock of version of game theory

    • The chances of this comment being true is lower then the chance of this channel looking at the full update **looks at disk 5**

  • They actually explained that there was more for the ravenger way back when it was scared of rabbits but removed because it didn’t fit with the lore

    • This is interesting because there exists concept art of the Warden that includes an idea for the Warden: it being friendly towards bunnies.

  • I love how Mojang is adding lore to the game. It gives Minecraft so much to think about.

    • True I do love that Mojang does that

    • They didn’t add any lore. This guy just made one.

    • @Galactic Studio’s saying "poorly made" is just a complete lie, bedrock has limitations so you cant say they're poorly made compared to java. if bedrock had the same capabilities as java bedrock would've had the same level of quality as java mods, however i do think the marketplace is making addon production for bedrock of less quality but im talking about the free ones and not those on the marketplace.

    • @sn3p3r ewwww something that was a month ago get with the times /j

  • My headcanon for the sculk is that it's one huge living organism. The catalyst acts as a brain of sorts, sensors detect and warn of possible dangers, and shriekers scream to try to scare away the danger. If that doesn't work (hence why you need to activate the shriekers 4 times), the sculk deploys its last resort, the Warden.

    • @Gnome Warlord No, Thats just fairly obvious based on gameplay and common sense

    • Let me guess, you watched matpat's video?

  • I also love how all these clues also tie in to the gameplay, like you find snowballs in chests and you can use them to distract the warden yourself, or how there are carpet pathes so you dont have to sneak for 10 minutes just to get to the other edge of the city

  • IMO, I view the sculk as a parasite. Based on how old designs look like parasitic mushrooms, and how it spreads. I’d like to think the old civilization viewed the sculk as a wonderful shroom with many capabilities. Over time they became infected and merged with the sculk. That’s why we have bones and why the warden is hostile, it is the collective consciousness of the people who merged and want to protect their work.

  • Interesting observation here: The Wither and the Warden are thematically linked while being vastly different Consider this: Both the Warden and the Wither rely on bones and souls to function and there's a theme of "spreading an affliction" within both. The skulk which is spread on death and consumes all forms of matter and the withering which kills all that lives in regards to vitality and thus spreads death and probably even help release Souls and both kill everything they find. And of course, both are triggered into being by players: Withers by being built directly while Wardens are passively generate by out presence and actions. Where they divert is curious: The Warden is also somewhat "fleshy" and more confined to the ground. It doesn't need to break blocks to move around when confined it can simply burrow itself, it also reacts more towards sound. The Wither is mostly bone and is more often in the air, when it's confined it or can progress it breaks blocks. It also has three heads meaning it can see things more easily. It's almost like they are by nature direct opposites while thematically congruent. Like Zombies and Skeletons (except those don't try to kill each other).

  • I always thought that the Warden looked and moved like it was a bunch of corpses stitched together, And I'm glad that I'm not the only one who suspected it too.

    • there are so many bots why are they everywhere

    • @Repent and believe in Jesus Christ Yo this dude is quoting the bibble omg do u know who thebbaby jeezuss is? He is impostor among us!!!,

    • That sounds dark and I love it

    • Warden, The Grafted: 500HP

    • @Joel Mok Wen Xuan ppl r gonna ignore u even more if i self promote on other videos

  • The fact that this is all in the overworld is scary enough, I can only imagine what a new dimension would hold. But regardless, wonderful video!

  • Your videos have made me decide: I'm going to fix the ruins and finish what the Ancient Builders started. Thank you for this motivation. Also, I just had a thought: what if the Allays are a kind of souls? What if there is something connecting the Allays to the Warden? Can you look into this?

    • @I just won a free morbius movie ticket you need to read more carefully next time

    • @M F nah man u said the opposite you said that the allays were failed attempts I said vexes were

    • @I just won a free morbius movie ticket that’s what everyone else thinks.

    • @M F or maybe the opposite, maybe the pillagers wanted something like an allay to grab them emeralds and other important stuff but accidentally summoned the vex

  • I remembered this video after seeing LTN’s post about making a machine to kill the warden and apparently harming potions HARM the warden meaning the warden is an alive mob and not undead.

    • And don’t forget the warden is alive because it has souls too so it does make sense

  • While they're summoned by players, players also happen to be the only beings in the game that can sneak. The Warden is actually most friendly towards players.

  • I remember once hearing something about the lore of the updates going backwards. After all those sacrifices to the warden, there's nobody to wake him up so the withers destroy the city. [1.19 --> 1.18] Something like a force destroyed the world and you travel back in time to look for hints and strenght to stop that force from destroying everything.

  • the reinforced deepslate "portal" looks like a warden with the ears and the rectangle shape, could be a hint that if we get a new dimension in 1.2 we would go inside the wardens "heart" where we can see and fight all the souls inside it or smth like that

  • The warden is pretty scary, as in previous experiments, one warden was able to outright kill a wither with its sonic boom! Dunno about Bedrock though, the withers there are tuff. The ancient builders almost had a chance to meet us, except they decided to genocide the entire species before we even spawned.

  • The warden is such a cool way of making players raid the ancient city the “intended” way instead of just cheesing it.

    • I'm still going to dump _ridiculous_ amounts of CGM shotgun shells into it when it turns up. 1.19 will learn I don't play Minecraft for survival horror or mechanical railroading.

  • In Bedrock, skulk appears in the “nature” section of the creative inventory. Just thought that would be a helpful detail.

    • as a bedrock user I can confirm

    • @Mela💋 stop it u can’t do that

    • @Suneru Madarasinghe yes that might be true ps on multiplayer it’s and your buddys

  • imagine sculk infested geodes... that would be very cool!

  • Hi Wifies, i love the time and effort you put into your videos and that the solution even makes SENSE! I hope your exams where going great and keep up the good work!

  • I just realized something, the giant “portal looking” structure resembles the head of the unused hollowed…

  • i think the skulk is for communication, because when the ancient builders put water on the skulk and lit up the light, that mustve been for communication and i also think that the skulk is to tell things to other people across their fort

  • Love this theory, but if that frame isn’t eventually going to be a portal, people are gonna be mad for sure lmao

    • They’re getting bad on their own faults because mojing never confirmed anything just because it looks rectangular and has a smaller version with the name portal in it doesn’t mean it’s an actual portal

    • @walter well I meant to say since the nether and end got both added

    • @Akatrielaiic _ true, but I meant more that if we could never go to this dimension eventually then players would be mad

    • well to me it would still fit in this theory! This particular ancient builder civilisation new that the warden protection was temporary: when their numbers were dwindling they could have looked for other ways of protection: a new dimension. The same conclusion of the one that built the strongholds ;)

    • @a cs day 1 had 1 dimension and nether and end both got added at different times but ok

  • mojang: _removes fireflies because they give frogs a stomach ache_ also mojang: _adds warden lore_

  • Nice wifies! you covered everything, but one thing still remained. Why the darkness effect when the warden is summoned?

  • ok, so this one BIG problem, if the damage was caused by withers, then how come the stronghold was unaffected

  • 0:18 Yes it does ,because , in another update , there was another mesaage in the galactic alphabet stating “The *Warden* is not what it seems” Coincidence ? Obviously not. 4:27 Yes , because Mobs also can’t spawn in mushroom Islands And why did they choose the deep dark (that contains a Warden) over the harmless mushroom island? VERY cool video, you’re very smart

    • The conclusion is that Wardens where relatively unknown at the start and Withers can find Mushroom Islands

  • Mind blown well done Wifies I couldnt come up with a better theory than yours!

  • it could be possible that the skulk is a creation that just spiralled out of control leading to it's widespreadness or maybe it was even seeded it's not hard to see why with a god of destruction on the loose, intentionally spreading the skulk or willingly letting it get loose would help in creating enough force to take down the wither

  • I love most of this video, especially the refutation and concessions when talking about illagers and how they tie in, but I really dont think the Wither is involved. I feel that there is, or maybe was, a prisoner the Warden watched. An ancient threat sealed away behind vast portals deep underground. A beast called the Ender Dragon.

    • I don't think that is mostly possible. Reason being because the Dragons seem perfectly confined in the End by it's own nature. In addition there's an achievement called "The End" on reaching it which contrasts the Wither's "The Beginning" achievement and the Wither itself is very "freeroaming" compared to the Dragon. In addition, red sandstone has a carved version that depicts the Wither and you can really only make that stone in the Overworld. Meaning whoever lived there knew about the Wither.

  • This is good theory, especially the theory of the players of the overworld trying to escape their own creation, the wither. Ever notice on the red sandstone texture, it’s that of a wither design?

  • You, sir, are a genius. I never thought of The Warden being _formed_ out of sculk. I thought it was _covered_ in it. The idea of people taking advantage of this natural stuff to defend them is interesting and this is my favorite theory on what The Warden and City are. Although, I don't understand why the souls of the builders seeking revenge is necessary. I would rather think it's a tragedy, and the player stumbles upon activating it. I'm also not giving up the possibility of the middle _also_ being a portal. They didn't have that word on the small Statue for no reason.

    • you know what id the wardenswere ancient builders and the skulk like spread on them and corrupted them like the enderman situation

    • @Ethan Jordan You really didn't notice a thing I said, did you? I literally said "A New dimension deserves its own update". And I was saying that Mojang were telling us info pertinent to the immediately arriving 1.19, and obviously, they wouldn't tell us about the next update until the time comes. They had enough trouble with ideas of Fireflies & Birch forests

    • @Ethan Jordan Hinted a name of something they want to keep us guessing about? A new dimension deserves its own focus update. They were focusing on giving details of the immediate one, there was no need to give us details that, likely, they didn't even have down for certain. For instance, they didn't have the Ancient City in mind at all when they revealed Sculk and Warden to us with Caves & Cliffs Minecon. They likely had to nail down what they want, and it could come soon.

  • With the release of 1.19, shriekers and sensors can be activated by other mobs. Still, a very interesting theory. Perhaps the warden had always been there and fed off of the death it caused to any unfortunate mobs that wandered into its lair. When the builders arrived, they built the city and worshipped it, using its sense of sound to protect them from the dangers outside like the wither or the undead plague that was spreading like wildfire on the surface (as proposed by RetroGamingNow). Aside from that, pretty solid theory!

  • OMG! Nice video, more lore into my mind! I wonder if 1.20 is gonna be something NO ONE HAS seen before. . . . .

  • A side note about the camp structure, there is a extinguished campfire underneath all the wool so maybe the wool was actually some sort of canopy originally but it collapsed

  • I swear, any genre of video wifies does will do well

  • Now I understand why the axolotls look so cute. They're trying to hide stuff, don't they?

    • *gulps* cringe

    • @Sarcasmo, talvezAlmost everywhere. He might be a bot though.

    • @EEK yes my back is killing me :(

    • @FritzTorchesMC He's not everywhere. He's in the same ID-tv recommendation bubble as the two of us. Or, he is a bot.

    • YOUR BACKK :D

  • I have a theory it could’ve been an old village when the ground was at that level and the pillagers raided it with an iron golem test it gone wrong and became the warden. (This probably isn’t the case lol)

  • wardens are plant like creatures created by skulk to improve deathrates so the skulk can grow aswell as protecting the skulk

  • This actually makes complete sense. Good job dude!

  • I was going to suggest the Cities exist in the Deep Dark because it is the safest place to be, since no mobs spawn there... just the Warden. Wool and snowballs are there to circumvent the only hostile entity in the area.

  • I like to think that the giant structure is actually an attempt at a portal, like the End portals, but it didn't work.

    • Ye

    • @Reforced yeah like the parasite is from a different dimension, and the portal is where it came from

    • @The Eye Of Gaming it looks more like an infection / parasite too me. Although the naming of portal cannot be a mistake so ig that makes more sense

    • like oh no weve went to the bottom ofthe world and now it didnt work then the wither killed them all their soles created the warden and then the illagersfound it and made it a resort then the illagers died aswell to the wardens

    • @The Eye Of Gaming true

  • I just had a thought, what if mobs are a result of experiments with the warden, that's why mobs only come out at night or dark places, maybe they are resurrected souls from the ancient builders.

  • I just thought about a theory that in 1.17 trailer there was a green axolotl but never made it in game it was fused with the skull shriker and turned into a Warden . The colur was preety close the core of Warden looks like the skeleton of axolotl.

  • I was thinking that the warden killed all the population in the city, and became sculk blocks, or that maybe the population discovered a new portal with reinforced deepslate, and attempted to escape through the portal, abandoning the city and become as we know it now. But what I am sure is that the people that did this cities traveled through the nether before, because of the soul sand under the portal, also theres some basalt blocks in the city, maybe the people who did the nether portals are the same people who built the city. In case the structure at the center of the city is not a big statue of the warden and its a portal, I think this people maybe had elytras because there is no stairs to go up, or maybe is a statue just because of that fact.

  • 7:08 Finnaly someone said it! I was thinking the same thing when I saw the dark oak and birch bridges scattered around the ancient cities

  • Builder 1: “Remember when we build a creature out of bones and souls that is causing our extinction?” Builder 2: “Yeah, what about it?” Builder 1: “Let’s do it again”

    • @Fluego Damn I didn´t even notice it, happens I guess

    • “So remember the time we killed some people and accidentally made an amalgamation of souls that killed us all?” “Yes.” “Let’s do it again, but with this blue stuff.” “Why?” “To… protect us from the other corpse-soul amalgamation.”

    • I honestly feel bad your comment got copied 🙁

    • WOWW YOU DON'T READ MY PROFILE PICTURE .

    • Exactly lol

  • This has me so hyped for a new dimension in minecraft, i havent fr played it in forever but if they add a new dimension im definitely coming back

  • More evidence for sculk being natural is on bedrock edition it's in the nature tab on the creative menu

  • Great video i loved it keep up the good work! (:

  • I hope we get more innovation with this biome in the future. So much potential for more like it reminds me so much of evil biomes in terraria it just needs more enemies lol.

  • I think this is spot on. It’s even called the warden, indicating it is protecting or guarding something.

  • I agree with everything up until the Warden protecting them. I think the ancient builders came to utilize skulk, but the warden began rising (to supervise the natural land and keep the foreign builders out) they tried to adapt with technology and worship, but when that failed they prepared a strong force in order to leave the deep dark, and they left through the big portal.

  • That Game Theory intro parody was 10/10.

  • So the Warden and the Wither are both Boss battle mobs that start with W and are 2 syllables long. They also are made of trapped souls and bones and were created by ancient builders.

  • Out of all, this turns out to be the most appealing theory, and the way you always explain the theory whole at detail in the end makes it more easily understandable.

    • WOWW YOU DON'T READ MY PROFILE PICTURE 😶😶❌❌.

    • getoutofherewhateveryouare also

    • He didn’t cover the music disc that indicates that the big structure is a portal and they came through from somewhere

  • So we ain’t gonna talk bout how terrifying the concepts for the warden were

  • I feel the cities could have even been built before the Wither creations, that you mention in your lore videos, as like research outposts to study the Deep Dark, but once the Withers were created, the research outposts were turned into survival outposts that became underground cities housing the remnants of the Ancient Builders

  • I think that the ancient builders chose to make their cities near the skulk so they could get xp to enchant their gear(which would explain the damaged enchanted diamond hoes in the chests), so that that they would be ready to face the unknown dangers of the end.

  • Now I understand why the axolotls look so cute. They're trying to hide stuff, don't they?

  • The name 'Warden' now comes together in three ways! 1. The Warden as it is to its creator, the sculk with the purpose to guard the catalyst and assist in its growth of sculk infestation by killing everything that is alive. 2. The Warden as to the ancient builders who utilised and worshipped it as it guarded themselves against the dangers that caused their extinction and to kill intruders. 3. The Warden as to the illagers and the player who explore Deep Dark, for them it is guard of the treasure left behind by ancient civilization. (Though this time the Warden does not help...)

    • WOWW YOU DON'T READ MY PROFILE PICTURE 😶😶❌❌.

    • Dude. I just didn’t want this video to end. I remember back in 2014 when the first few updates were released and I thought THAT was advanced. And here we are…

  • Also, in Bedrock Edition, a gang of Wardens can definitely beat the Wither, what you said on 11:32 was correct. The Wardens get aggravated when hearing the Wither, therefore on a mission to kill it.

  • Maybe warden was supposed to protect the ancient civilization from giant creatures which more powerful than withers because we can find the fossils in underground indicating giant creatures existed in underground and the warden cant see it can hear so the ancient civilization had snowballs to distract wardens to prevent attacking them instead of creatures

  • Maybe pillagers invaded and move into the mansion’s that were owned by ancient builders after the extension of them by the warden so it has pillager like build style

  • Hi Wifies, I love to watch your game theory videos. Just wondering, does the Ancient Wither have anything to do with the painting of a wither? Then if so, an ancient builder must've travelled to the nether before anyone else and came back and painted a picture of the Ancient Wither. Then a few generations later, someone finds out how to go to the nether (and the Ancient Wither has died by then) and finds the soul sand and wither skulls, then saw the painting of a wither and created a wither.

  • Fun Fact: The sculk related things that have bone texture (Warden, catalyst, shrieker) are the only ones that relate to souls. Maybe sculk didn't have the power of turning souls/xp to itself at first and it was only able to detect vibrations, but when it spread to fossils of ancient creatures it got its powers. (Btw sculk also has he sense of touch, because when you place/break a block on sculk the sensor will get activated even if there is wool on the way.

  • Perhaps we will get more lore on the warden after we finally get acheology

  • 5:11. The water log censors are probably to avoid the warden hearing the sensors.

  • These videos always make me feel better!

  • This is very good you have made such a good point this could be a small breach through

  • Just saying he is insane at finding lore that we don’t even need the Minecraft movie when we have Wifies and Seawattgaming

    • I guess you havent watch RetroGamingNow yet

    • RetroGamingNow is a way better lore theorist than Matpat

    • why is your cube so expensive

    • + Its justa theory a game theory

    • Laughs in RetroGamingNow

  • Wow this is such a dark video and great theory Wifies!

  • Amazing theory, I'm pretty sure you're spot on buut I really hope you're wrong about the portal thingy.

  • I kinda find it really funny that mojang acknowledged that the snowballs felt out of place in the loot tables, really tried to do something else, but in the end they couldn't come up with a better alternative and just ended up adding a new room that justifies the existence of snow instead.

  • So if the piallegers explored the ancient city maybe they created the ravenger as they're own version of the Warden

  • We can all agree that whenever he uploads our days get 100x better ❤️❣️

  • Makes sense why the warden immediately would choose the wither over any other mob I've tried this in creative

  • wow. this is a lot to take in, and as always im sticking with your headcanons

  • theory : the ancient city was actually inhabited by mysterious warden like creatures that I would call Sculklings. Sculklings consider this home but when the ancient builders discovered this. They raided and looted the ancient cities and they fought a brutal war which was The Sculk War , The ancient builders won and only some. of the Sculklings survived and were forced to evacuate and leave their ancient city and those who survived evolved into what we now know as The Warden. The Warden is hostile to us because we look like the ancient builders who destroyed their home. 2 years after the ancient builders raided the ancient cities. The mass extinction event happened and the ancient builders died. Also one of the sculklings sneaked into an ancient city owned by the builders and placed a catalyst which was a portal to keep fighting. Ancient builders discovered this but didnt know how to safely destroy it so they left it there. If your wondering how the Sculklings built the city. Well they were as intelligent as the Ancient Builders but never went out of the caves because of safety concerns. they had snowballs in the cities because they were owned by the ancient builders but previously owned by the Sculklings.

  • you probably should talk about disc 5, it gets more in-depth with the story of the wither, ancient builders and warden.

  • From lore point of view it looks a lot like that that the Ancient cities and the Warden are a Frankenstein story of the Ancient Builders, or like Argent energy from Doom. They discovered Sculk from another dimension, tried to utilize its power but it corrupted and defeated them, leading to the abandonment of these cities.

  • what if the wool is actually just the dusty remains of some of the deepslate bricks in the city and maybe the sculk and what created the warden was from the portal?

  • you said on the start that the warden is an axolotl but when you theorizing you said the warden is an mass of bones and sculk

  • I kind of love how people are only focusing on the deep dark and the warden while they are also overhauling swamps and adding mangrove swamps

    • @RED_PANDA 2021 yeah ik but I just find it funny

    • I mean all about the ancient city and the warden is bc of how scary and amazing it is AND bc of lore Swamp revamp and the mangrove swamps is just cool in nature but has no lore

    • @Ethan Jordan yeah i agree

    • @Anton Ryelund It's best not to @ bots. I think they can track your activity on ID-tv if you do. Idk, just something I heard, but I think it's probably true.

  • I feel bad for the Warden. He just wanted to sleep in peace without noise.

  • I'd like to think that at the end when you said all but one of the builders sacrificed themselves resulting in a stronger version of the warden is what we hear being summoned in the Otherside disc, maybe it was something made as an attempt to retake the surface/overworld? I also believe that the person igniting the portal (also heard in the disc) was that last builder.

  • This was an absolute good one

  • notice how in the middle of the warden when it glows it shows three heads either being pillager or villager meaning maybe the pillagers had to do the same to keep the warden happy.

  • This actually makes sense as in the early concept art of the warden others look like withers as if they were trying to make something similar to the wither to protect them.

  • It all made sense until the wither bit, there's clearly a piece missing there, I hardly suspect the wither was the issue

  • They actually explained that there was more for the ravenger way back when it was scared of rabbits but removed because it didn’t fit with the lore

  • This is such an amazing theory!

  • God! I am just dying to know the connection between the builders and souls. It’s in the warden and the wither, two builder-related mobs. And where did the souls come from? Are they some sort of magic, or are they natural?

  • 11:33 the wither is way too weak to drive them beneath ground, i've said this before and i'll say it again. its a boss mob that doesn't even spawn naturally, and in the Mobeastiary, a book _by Mojang_ it says it was summoned by a few foolish adventurers who fought it and eventually defeated it. if a handful of adventurers defeated it so could an entire species.

    • @SoulPlays With that logic you could just disprove everything. ''So and so didnt exist at that time so its false'' So basically your life is a lie because it wasnt planned that doesnt make sense right?

    • @the if you mean the bedrock wither, its much stronger but still can be defeated. plus they wouldn't be stupid enough to summon an army of withers, and we see no evidence of one as wifies even pointed out in a previous video.

    • Well, there's a discrepancy between the versions. Bedrock Wither is much stronger than Java

    • Maybe the adventures weren’t the first to create it, just the first to rediscover it after the builders died.

    • what if mojang adds another powerful boss mob ?

  • Best warden theory yet love the videos.

  • The axolotl thing might be true, Mojang has a history of inverting things such as textures and sounds, as well as easter eggs that require spectrograms; endstone, endermen voicelines, and Disc 11 are prime examples of this.

  • THIS IS SUCH A GOOD LURE!! I love it! You are so smart!
